On Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, Tyler was one of a handful of Kindergarten students awarded Student of the Month. He was recognized for demonstrating
the character trait of respect. We were all supremely impressed and proud of Tyler for winning this award in only his first month of Kindergarten.

On Friday, January 8, 2010 Tyler was awarded Student of the Month for demonstrating the quality of cooperation. He was also asked to prepare a
short speech so he could share with his fellow students what cooperation meant to him. At first Tyler didn't want to do it but Jordyn convinced him
it might be fun. So, with Big Sister's encouragement, Tyler wrote out what cooperation meant to him and bravely spoke to his fellow Cumberland
ElementarySchool students. Despite some equipment malfunctions, Tyler gave his speech and accomplished what he set out to do.
On January 8, 2010 I gave a speech at my first Student of the Month award assembly for the 1st Grade.
On Tuesday, April 5, 2011, Tyler was awarded Student of the Month for demonstrating the quality of self-discipline. Tyler's award for self-discipline
is well deserved. When he gets home from school, he gets a snack and immediately starts on his homework. Usually, he has a math worksheet
and 20 minutes of reading followed by a written summary of what he's read. Recently, Tyler has also started working on math facts worksheets
after school so he can answer subtraction problems more quickly. Only after Tyler completes all his homework will he play.
On Friday, February 3, 2012, Tyler was awarded Student of the Week for demonstrating the quality of cooperation. This is Tyler's second award for
cooperation. We're all very proud of him for his ability to work well with others. It just proves he has a winning personality (probably like his
mother's) and can adapt to all situations to achieve the desired goal.
On Monday, January 14, 2013, Tyler was recognized as a "Cool Cougar" for demonstrating self control. He, along with other students, was awarded Cool
Cougar status for the month of January in the MUR at Cumberland. It was a really nice presentation where his teacher Mrs. Rodriguez announced his name and described Tyler to his peers.
On Monday, September 23, 2013, Tyler was recognized as a "Cool Cougar". Just like in Kindergarten, Tyler was selected because he demonstrated the
quality of respect. What's amazing about this award was his being recognized in the first full month of school, just like in Kindergarten. It's a very fitting way to
end his elementary school years just as he began.
