I started collecting comics when I was in the 3rd Grade (1972 or 1973). I was introduced to them by my older cousins (Mark and Brant) who used to have a huge box of comics in their bedroom
closet. When we visited them I marveled at all the titles they had - Spider-Man, Captain America, Avengers, Fantastic Four, etc. With whatever funds I had I began buying comics where ever I could find
them (luckily, comics were only ¢.15 or ¢.20 back then). There was a neighborhood drug store about 2 blocks from my grandparents' house outside of Chinatown on the corner of Pacific and Hyde where I probably bought
most of my early comics. When I got into Junior High I bought all my comics from a comic book store in North Beach on Columbus Ave. called Golden Gate Comics (later became Comics & Comix).
Over the years my main focus was the Avengers. This was a great comic since it featured multiple superheroes I could read about without having to buy a bunch of different titles. Over time, and as I
was able to afford more, I began buying more titles, but the Avengers would continue to be my favorite. Eventually, I was able to collect the first 200 issues.
My love for comics went through some dry spells (high school and early college) and some real high periods (when I worked at and eventually owned Comics And
Da-Kind). When I became a stay-at-home Dad, I found eBay. It was a fun way to pass the time when the kids were napping to browse the site and see all the different comic listings that were
available at the touch of a button. Through eBay I was able to purchase some of the comics I had sold over the years to try and rebuild the collection of my youth.
When I was a kid I could only dream about seeing superheroes in the movies. I'm amazed now that the comic book stories I read as a kid have been adapted to the big screen starring some of the biggest
names in Hollywood portraying superheroes. These movies have become so successful and popular that my kids are fans and are really interested in the genre. It's funny because, all of a sudden, while
in their eyes I am still not, in any way, cool, I possess a knowledge they want to tap into. This site is my way to enjoy some of the comics I own and the many other pop-culture interests I have.
