Miroku
Miroku is the middle school youth group at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple. Miroku meets once a month during the school
year and involves the students in fun activities, community service, and learning more about Buddhism.
At the March 2012 Miroku meeting, the activity was to make pizza. All members were given pizza dough and toppings.
Eveyone broke out into groups and created their own pizzas. While the pizzas cooked, all the members played in the gym. Afterward, everyone enjoyed fresh-out-of-the-oven pizza!

The February 2013 Miroku meeting found all attending members finshing up their signs for ABA and their Asian Food Drive to
benefit West Valley Community Services. Once those signs were completed, the group started work on their own community service
signs asking for Health Kit donations also to benefit WVCS. WVCS provides all types of services to disadvantaged families in the West Valley Community.

During the months of February and March 2013, Miroku, as a community service project, collected various health items to assemble into kits for the
disadvantaged. The MVBT Sangha generously donated tooth brushes, tooth paste, dental floss, soap, skin cream, shampoo, towels, band-aids, combs,
brushes, razors, etc. that Miroku assembled into Health Kits. These Health Kits would be donated to the West Valley Community Services to distribute
to people who needed them.

On the afternoon of April 10, 2013, Miroku delivered over 190 Health Kits to West Valley Community Services. All told, the boxes of Health Kits weighed
in at 143 pounds! Later, Miroku toured WVCS and learned what services they provide. A wonderful community service project and an incredible learning experience.

Sunday, June 2, 2013 was a very sad day for the Mountain View Buddhist Temple. Reverend Dean bade farewell to the MVBT as he was transferred
to the Palo Alto Buddhist Temple. While only 5 miles "up the road", Sensei and his family will be sorely missed. To say thank you to Reverend Dean
for his years of service, the temple had a going away luncheon to wish him good luck. Miroku presented him with a going away card with pictures and
messages from the membership.

Sunday, June 9, 2013 Miroku held it's second annual Root Beer Float Fundraiser to benefit the Capital Campaign. In the end, Miroku grossed
just over $500 and netted nearly $410 to donate to the temple.

Friday, June 14, 2013 was Miroku's final meeting of the year. This meeting was very important because after the Root Beer Float Fundraiser, Miroku
had to present the temple with the funds it raised. In order to make it easier for everyone to see, members created a "big" check with the amount and
signatures of everyone who participated. Also, since it was the end of the school year, everyone wanted to say good-bye to the out-going 8th Graders
as they would be moving on to YBA. To celebrate, L&L Barbeque was ordered for everyone to share at dinner. To top off the evening, chocolate
covered marshmallows, bananas, rice crispies, and strawberries were enjoyed by everyone for dessert.
