Christmas 2020
2020 will forever be remembered as the year of the pandemic. The state mandated shelter-in-place due to the rampant spread of COVID-19 that prevented us from spending Christmas Eve with Auntie
Deanna and her family. It also meant we could not spend Christmas Day with Grandma Sato's extended family either. Despite not being able to see everyone like we normally would Mom created an amazing
menu for both days. On Christmas Eve she made ham, twice baked potatoes, and broccoli.
On Christmas Day she made an amazing Prime Rib with mashed potatoes. She asked Auntie Melissa for her cream corn recipe and had Jordyn make that. Just like Halloween and Thanksgiving we did a potluck
with the Hamasaki's, Shinkawa's, and Tsukahara's. There was so much food that there was no way we could sample everything, so we saved the chili Auntie Betty made as well as Auntie Pauline's Shrimp
Etouffee for the Day After Christmas. Mom had one creme brulee, but the rest we had to save because we were so full. We totally devoured Auntie Sharon's garlic shrimp and spinach dip, but there was no
way we could even break into her rice pilaf or cranberry jello. So, sure, the pandemic really made us miss seeing our family, but we totally gorged ourselves on some amazing food!
It wouldn't be Christmas if Jordyn didn't get a flannel shirt. |
