Jordyn, once again, is on the Homestead High School JV Girls Basketball team. This year's team isn't as deep as last year's team, and the chemistry
is still developing between returning players and new. Jordyn is, however, one of 3 team captains and she is taking her leadership role very seriously.
Besides helping when she can on the court, she also informs her teammates on all game and team practice schedules. So far, their first scrimmage was
just before Thanksgiving at Silver Creek HS.
The Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Homestead had their first pre-season scrimmage of the season. It was obvious both teams were trying to find their
rhythm early on. At the end of the first quarter the score was only 4-3 (HHS leading). Jordyn had very few opportunities to shoot, but she did dish the
ball and handled the ball well. Homestead won 41-31.
No basket, but a nice cross-over (11/25/14).
HHS Epitaph (12/4/14)
Here's an article that ran in the HHS Epitaph (12/4/14) where Jordyn was quoted.
The first pre-season game was against San Jose High School. Not knowing what to expect, Homestead started strong with a full court press on defense.
It became obvious, however, San Jose was very young and inexperienced. By the second half, Homestead wouldn't defend until San Jose got into the front
court. While the score was very lopsided (52-10), it was good to get everyone playing time against another team.
Jordyn's 3-pointer that got her in the scorebook (12/8/14).
This was the first of 4 meetings against rival Fremont High School. From the outset, Fremont looked young as it had very few returning players from
last year's squad. After a quick start and a decent lead, Homestead pulled its starting line up and mixed in many of it's bench players.
Jordyn's first 3-pointer (12/11/14).
Jordyn gets a steal on the inbound pass and pivots for a quick 2 (12/11/14).
Here's Jordyn's second 3-pointer of the game (12/11/14).
Mt. Pleasant High School was another school with a pretty inexperienced team. Homestead took the lead and never looked back. In this game, Jordyn hit a 2-pointer from the left side.
The weekend before Christmas, Homestead participated in the Monta Vista JV Basketball Tournament. On the fourth day, Homestead played St. Francis in the
Championship game. St. Francis had a deep bench and could substitute players without skipping a beat. Homestead played hard from start to finish, but couldn't
make a run. Ultimately, Homestead lost 42-51. Some bright spots were Jordyn, hurting from an earlier ankle injury, made a couple of 3's to keep it close early on
and good friend Maddie winning All Tournament honors.
The first league game of the season was against Lynbrook HS (1/7/15). Homestead ultimately lost, but Jordyn tried her hardest to keep the game
close. She finished the game with 10 points hitting 3 3-pointers and a free throw. They'll get them next game.
Her first 3 bounced high off the rim but it still dropped in (1/7/15).
When no one came out to guard her, Jordyn made another 3 (1/7/15)!
This 3 went in with 2 people guarding Jordyn (1/7/15)!
After suffering a severe muscle strain in her shooting arm at the end of the Lynbrook game, Jordyn returned to action two weeks later against
Santa Clara. She came in as a reserve in the second quarter and took full advantage of her first opportunity to shoot. I'm sure it felt good to contribute again.
The defender didn't come out to guard, so Jordyn took the shot (1/23/15)!
In the second Monta Vista game, Jordyn didn't score until the 3rd Quarter. However, in the 1st while on defense after an opposing player missed a
shot, Jordyn boxed out, rebounded the ball, turned, and fired a pass to a streaking Sandy who layed it in. Text book.
This was Homestead's second game against Milpitas, but Jordyn's first. She was injured during the first game and couldn't play. In this game she
took some shots but couldn't seem to find her range. When she couldn't make any baskets, she did the next best thing and that was to pass the
ball. Here was one of her better passes for an assist.
Basketball for Jordyn this year wasn't all about playing for Homestead and making 3's. Something else she found extremely fulfilling was coaching the
Tri-City Instructional 2's (second grade). All season long (and last season) Jordyn, along with good friend Cher, was a student coach for Coach Irv,
Tri-City's long-time second grade coach. All through Jordyn's basketball career, Coach Irv was never too busy to give Jordyn helpful and insightful
tips that benefitted her greatly. When the opportunity arose to help coach second graders under Coach Irv's watchful eye, Jordyn didn't think twice.
This season, Coach Irv gave Jordyn and Cher the reins to call plays and help guide these young first time players in three different Instructional Jamborees.
Jordyn always feels incredible satisfaction every time one of her players makes a basket and runs down the court with a huge smile.

Jordyn pulled double duty reffing games at this Jam too.
On Saturday, March 14, the Homestead High School Girls JV Basketball team held their end-of-the-season banquet at Olive Garden in Palo Alto. All
the players, coaches, and parents were in attendance. Everyone feasted on salads, breadsticks, and all different kinds of pasta. During the festivities, the
team captains made speeches and presented the coaching staff with thank you cards and gifts. The coaches also made presentations and announced the
winners of the team awards. Every member of this team earned Scholar/Athlete honors. Jordyn was awarded the Coaches Award for helping her fellow players
throughout the season. Everyone had a wonderful time and really enjoyed spending time with one another.
On Thursday, April 7, 2016 the league champion Homestead High School Varsity Girls Basketball Team held their end of the season dinner at BJ's Restaurant &
Brewhouse in Cupertino. While Jordyn didn't play high school basketball this season, she did attend as many games as she possibly could. Not content to
simply cheer from the stands, however, she always asked if there was something she could do for the team. The coach inevitably would ask Jordyn if she could
run the shot clock. As it turns out, with Jordyn handling shot clock duties, a very appreciative Coach Hoffman had one less thing to worry about. So, at the end
of a very successful season, the coach and team asked Jordyn if she could attend their team dinner. Jordyn, surprised and humbled by the invitation, gratefully accepted.
