Mother's Day 2019 was truly out of the ordinary. Ran went to Hilo to meet Grandma and Grandpa so they could visit Great Grandma Sato. Great Grandma has been dealing with many issues recently and was relegated to using a wheelchair. However, Grandma sent a message about the last time they saw her and how she was in much better spirits. She was even walking around with the use of a walker! Deb thought it might be a good idea to see her if she's feeling better, so Ran booked a trip to Hilo for two days starting Mother's Day Sunday. He was thrilled to see his grandmother as she was totally engaged and talking to everyone. She even got up to walk around a little.

While visiting Hilo, Ran stayed with Uncle George who spoiled him with beer, wine, and food. Our first dinner was at 1 Plus 1 Cafe. We always hit up this Chinese restaurant in Hilo because we can always count on great Chow Mein and Chow Fun there. Our last dinner included fresh ahi and hamachi sashimi with aku poke and kale salad at Uncle George's. For dessert everyone delighted in an Okinawan Sweet Potato with Haupia Cheesecake.
