Connor's in the C-American division with Tri-City this season. All 10 of his teammates are in the 7th Grade. In the past, there were a number of kids his age playing for Tri-City,
but this year some of the, arguably, best players didn't come back. This created a situation of having, perhaps, too many kids for one team but not enough for two. Despite the numbers, Tri-City went
ahead and fielded a team with 11 players. While his team's bench is long, it isn't necessarily deep. Some of the players have very little basketball experience, so they're struggling as a team to find
a rhythm. Despite the lack of team experience Connor still has fun playing.
Ronin Rebels!
CYS Tournament Game 3 vs. CYS CA-2 (11/4/18)
Connor hit a free throw in one of his first two games of the tournament, but he hadn't hit any shots from the field. Finally, in Game 3 he shook off the rust and started making baskets!
This was the second league game overall, but Connor's first. It was also right after the holiday break and Connor hadn't touched a basketball in weeks. Fortunately, his muscle memory took over and
helped him with his shot. His first bucket of the regular season was a 3-pointer! While the team played well overall, they still couldn't hold on to win. However, Connor did his best to try and give
them a chance at a tie in regulation by narrowly missing a half court 3-point attempt.
This wasn't a pretty game by any stretch of the imagination (blow out loss), but Connor did his best to help the team. In the end, Connor did get this one nice little
floater to drop. Hopefully, next Sunday they'll be able to put together a more complete game.
What a difference a week makes. After getting blasted last week, the Tri-City Ronin Rebels got a much needed win before two weeks off (bye and then Superbowl
weekend). While Connor couldn't seem to get any shots to fall, he was able to make two free throws after being fouled driving through the lane!
Following Connor's final game of the regular season, teammate Mason invited all the players, coaches, and parents to his house to celebrate.
Mason's house is great for these types of parties. He has foosball, pop-a-shot basketball, ping pong, Nerf guns, and a trampoline. All the parents chipped in and brought different kinds of salads,
entrees, and desserts. Mason's parents also bought pizza and made a big pot of curry for everyone to feast on. It was also the perfect time to thank all the coaches for their selfless time and effort.
These players are so much better for having them as mentors and role models. This was also a great opportunity for the parents to socialize and hang out in a relaxed setting. This is what Tri-City is
all about.
The Betsuin Basketball Tournament was this past weekend. This year, we were placed in the C-National Division (8th & 9th Graders). We have no idea why, but it was pretty difficult playing against
taller, bigger, and sometimes faster competition. Despite it all, Connor's team was able to get one win in their second game against CCC. Playing against such tough competition didn't give Connor many
opportunities to shoot, but he did get one to fall. Take a look at some of his highlights here.
Connor found a little seam and made the most of it.
This video shows Connor getting an assist as part of a fast break.
The Tri-City Awards Banquet is an opportunity for all the teams to come together for dinner and to celebrate the end of the season. It also allows the families
to hang out one last time to enjoy one another's company.
