Connor began his 2nd year of Tri-City league basketball this season. He's on the D-American Silver team and Coach Stuart is his head coach. This team is
a good mix of new and experienced players, so Connor is going to have to learn to help his teammates who haven't played much.
D-American Silver!
CYS Tournament Game 1 (11/12/16)
Tri-City Welcome Sign at CYS Tournament.
I don't know what it is about the CYS Tournament to begin the basketball season, but it always provides a great deal of excitement. Connor's first game was on
Saturday and the team had a hard time getting started. Try as they might, they couldn't seem to get anything going for the first 3 quarters. Trailing by as much
as 12 points for most of the game, Connor's team made a valiant come back in the 4th Quarter. With a stifling defense, they tied the game on a 3-pointer
with :06 seconds left in regulation! In the overtime period they only scored one bucket, but it was enough to eek out a 1 point win, 30-29!
And one (11/12/16)!
Game 2 (11/12/16)
Game 2 of the CYS Tournament was later in the day on Saturday. Connor's team played Taisho of San Francisco. This game played out very differently
from Game 1 in that Tri-City got on the board early and kept scoring. Connor started the scoring right from the tip-off. Once he got the ball in the front
court he took a nice little jumper for the first basket of the game. All told, Connor scored 3 baskets for 6 points!
While Connor didn't score any points in this game, he did take his fair share of shots. He just couldn't seem to get any to fall. Even when he went to the line,
he couldn't catch a break. Fortunately, the rest of the team made up for it and they won the Championship Game 31-22 over the CYS Scorpions!
Another pre-season jamboree right after the CYS Tournament last week. This weekend, we play in the Tri-City Jamboree at the same venue, Wilcox High School in
Santa Clara. Our first game started at 9am and it looked like it. Everyone could have used a cup of coffee as we only scored 5 points in the first half. Fortunately, we turned
it on in the second half and were tied at the end of regulation. The overtime period is sudden death so the first bucket wins. After each team had one possession in OT,
we found a way to make a quick put back for the win.
Trailing by 13 heading into the 4th Quarter, the Dime Droppers found themselves in a deep hole. Fortunately, their defense picked up, rebounding got better, and the shots
started to fall. Teammate Myles got red hot making 14 points in the 4th Quarter alone. It was a thrilling 4th Quarter come back. Coach Stuart said we should change our team
name from Dime Droppers to Heart Stoppers.
After being fouled on the baseline, Connor hits both his free throws.
Trying to get off to a quicker start, Coach Stuart had the players come to the gym a little earlier than usual. He had them get loose and run through a few exercises to get
the juices flowing. Whatever he did, it worked. The team played harder earlier and never really looked back. Connor helped nicely by scoring on two lay-ups.
This week the team couldn't warm up as they would have liked. The gym only opened 15 minutes before game time, so they only went through their regular
pre-game warm-ups. Needless to say they didn't get off to a great start like they hoped. At first, they were behind, then they were ahead, and then they were tied.
In the end, they found a way to pull out the win. Connor had his best game of his short career. He totaled 9 points on 3 free throws and 2 three pointers.
Connor makes both his free throws after getting fouled under the basket.
Here's the steal Connor was fouled on that sent him to the line.
Connor was fouled on a break away but only made his second free throw for his 3rd point of the game.
This is Connor's first 3-pointer ever in a game.
To start the 3rd Quarter, Connor hit his second 3-pointer.
After losing last week in San Francisco to Taisho Purple, the Dime Droppers bounced back this week and won against CYS 4. Like in past games, the team had a hard time
getting started and couldn't get on the board until the second quarter. However, just like all the other games when they came from behind to win, the Dime Droppers used a stifling
defense to get back into the game. In the end, Connor was able to score 4 points and the team won 28-21.
Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 was a long day of basketball. The Associates Jamboree is always held the Saturday before the Superbowl at San Francisco City College.
Connor's first game was against Eden at 9:30 in the morning. His second game was
scheduled at 2:30 in the afternoon. Despite not scoring in the first game, Connor did his best defensively and did get an assist. In his second game against the Associates White team, Connor scored the first 4 points of the game. He was fouled
underneath the basket and made one of two from the line. Then, not too much later, he hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key. In the end his team won both games.
In the second to last game of the regular season, the Dime Droppers played the CYS 6 team from San Jose. The team got off to a quicker start than in most games but still
found themselves in a tight contest trailing 8-13 at the end of the 1st Quarter. Fortunately, the team started to find their groove and went on a 14-5 run in the 2nd. In the end, the Dime Droppers won 41-27 dominating the paint using their big men to
get rebounds and convert high percentage shots from underneath the basket.
